she wore that dress like it was a saturday
pretty as a summer rose picked in the morning

one he couldn't quite believe

This place was absolutely terrible. She could kill someone. Really. Lucy had the ability, had the motive, she just needed someone to kill. Someone she didn't like...Boy were there plenty of those kinds of people nowadays. At the moment, though, she was mainly thinking of a certain Hispanic girl, Carmen, Lucy had known at her old school in Chicago.
Said girl had been completely terrible to Lucy for no apparent reason since the two had met. Carmen had bumped into Lucille during class exchanges and, instead of saying "excuse me" like any normal person would have - Lucy certainly was about to since she was at least polite to people she didn't know - the girl had told Lucy to "move", shoved her, and then continued walking. Well, from then on it had been a war zone, mostly because Lucy held grudges, but otherwise because the Carmen girl didn't know how to be anything but rude.
For any one thing Carmen had done to Lucy, Lucy had done something ten times worse back. For example, one time Carmen had decided it would be funny to slash the tires on Lucy's car. Well, stupid Carmen hadn't realized Lucy had loyal friends, one of which, Emmett, had given her a ride home. On his motorcycle. That had earned Lucy even more street cred than she had before. And after that there were definitely more people afraid of her the next day for no reason than she'd remembered from the day before.
Of course, Lucy planned for something terrible to happen to Carmen the next weekend. She got one of her friends who worked at the beauty salon Carmen went to monthly to sell the girl lime green hair dye instead of the usual red that Carmen used for her highlights. Needless to say, Carmen hadn't shown up for school for weeks. That hadn't been the only thing Lucy had done to Carmen. She’d also gotten the other girl in trouble for cheating on a math test just because it was such an easy thing to do.
Those were just warnings, though. Because no one messed with Lucille Baudelaise and got away with it.
At least, they didn't.
She was furious, though that was nothing knew. For the past year she'd only known three moods: sad, apathetic, and angry. That didn't make her any better to be around, and was probably why she hadn't made too many new friends her junior year. (Granted, most of the new kids were too scared after the Carmen incident to even talk to her unless she spoke to them first.)
But now she didn't even have any of her old friends. Now it was just Lucy. Half the other kids here were freaks and the staff didn't seem much better. They were overly friendly to half the kids, probably scared they'd try to kill the faculty or whatever. It was pathetic. Even more so since she practically had half the staff wrapped around her finger. So boring, so useless.
Just like the fact that she was here. She didn't need to be in some high-security house for crazies to get better. No, all Lucy needed was to be left to her own devices and she'd be fine. No one ever understood that and now she was here. To get better. What a bunch of bull. Lucy didn't need anyone's help to get better. She just needed chocolate, friends, and maybe a hot guy or two.
She kicked a rock into the pond and took a deep breath, watching the ripples form on the water. Boy, she needed to meditate. She hadn't meditated in the longest time. Maybe she should start again while she was staying here at the ranch. It wasn't like she had anything better to do. Of course, she could always go take care of the horses here, but that would get old. Fast.
Why wasn’t there anything to do here? Why the hell did she even have to be here? This was a correctional facility and Lucy hadn’t done anything wrong. She huffed to herself and took a seat on one of the benches. Closing her eyes, she tried to think of something peaceful. And failed. Because there was no peace in a place like this. There was only distress.
they were high up on a hill
